The blast inside the saloon occured around 7:30 am Monday and that started a fire, said Mohammadpur Police OC Azizul Haque.

He, however, could not confirm the cause behind the explosion.

Four from the saloon have been admitted at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital’s Burn Unit.

They are saloon owner Nupur Mazumder, 25, employee Goutam Mazumder, 25 and customers ‘Jashim’, 25 and ‘Tamim’, 19.

The saloon was open throughout Sunday night for customers ahead of Eid.

" The blast took place when we were working in the morning. It shattered the shop’s glasses and quickly started a fire,” Goutam told reporters at the hospital.

Goutam and Nupur both suffered 60 percent burns and are critical, burn unit resident doctor Partha Sankar Paal told bdnews24.com.

The fire inside the saloon was put off before the fire fighters got there, said Fire Brigade Control Room official Hasibur Rahman.

“We are investigating the explosion,” he said.
