Speaker, Deputy Speaker mourn Baby Maudud’s demise

Speaker of Parliament Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury and Deputy Speaker Fazle Rabbi Miah have expressed deep sorrow at the demise of veteran journalist and former MP AN Mahfuza Khatun Baby Maudud.

Baby Maudud died at a Dhaka hospital on Friday after a long battle with cancer. She was 66.

In a condolence message, the speaker said, “Baby Maudud was a brave daughter of the nation.”

“She worked for the people’s welfare until her death. The nation has lost a veteran journalist, columnist, social reformer and worker.”

The deputy speaker in a separate message said, “Baby Maudud was a true servant of the people. She was a veteran social worker and a leading pioneer of truth and justice.”

Chief Whip of the House ASM Feroz, Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu, Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor, Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor AAMS Arefin Siddique and Jahangirnagar University Vice-Chancellor Farjana Islam, among others, have condoled her death.

They offered their condolences to Baby Maudud’s family members and prayed for the peace of her departed soul.
