All of them were identified as leaders of the Upazila's Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal unit.

They were the unit committee's Office Secretary Firoz Mahmud, School Affairs Secretary Arafat Rahman and member Mizanur Rahman Mizan, said Rangpur district Chhatra Dal General Secretary Moniruzzaman Hizbul.

Mithapukur Police Station OC Rabiul Alam told bdnews24.com that the trio was on their way to Sathibarhi area to attend an Iffar.

He said the truck ran over them right after they fell on the road after a collision with a 'Nasiman', a locally built vehicle, on Rangpur-Bogra highway's Dulapur area at Upazila Sadar around 6:15pm.

All of them died on the spot, he added.

The OC said agitated locals blocked the highway after the accident for around two hours. Later, police took control of the situation and traffic resumed around 8pm.

However, the truck driver managed to abscond with the vehicle.
