Liberation War ministry's Information Officer Abdullahil Maruf said on Monday that these officials had applied for job extension, but their certificates were found to be faulty and cancelled.

"People who were not freedom fighters cannot claim to be so," Minister for Liberation War Affairs AKM Mozammel Haque told reporters in his office on Monday.
He said the public administration ministry would be asked to roll back the financial benefits given to them and departmental action would be taken.

The minister claimed the term "fake freedom fighter" will not exist after 2014.

Abdullahil Maruf said the certificates of 30 people were revoked based on a report from the National Security Intelligence, another two based on reports from district administrations, two because they were not of the right age and one because the officer had two certificates.

He said according to the reports the 32 officials were unable to show any documents pertaining to their participation in the war.

The government has so far cancelled the freedom fighter certificates of 151 people.
