Ambassador AFM Gousal Azam Sarker was recalled for what the foreign ministry said not being able to operate the mission 'properly'.

Allegations are there that the envoy had confined an employee of the mission, Sheikh Abdur Rahman and forced him to work.

Rahman, who returned from Beirut on Sunday, however, says that Sarker is a victim of conspiracy.

"All of these are false allegations; it's a conspiracy (against the ambassador)," he told bdnews24.com.

The mission's counsellor ATM Monemul Haque, however, suggests Rahman might be saying so to 'save himself or someone else'.

Rahman, a cleaner at the Bangladesh Embassy in Beirut, also worked as the gardener. He drew a monthly salary of $625.

Speaking at bdnews24.com's office on Sunday, he said two staff of the embassy 'persuaded' him to write a leave application, which contained allegations against the envoy and his family members.

Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali has said Sarker has been instructed to hand over the charges of the mission to the ministry's East Asia wing director Mohammad Nazrul Islam.
