Minar told to surrender

Mahatab Uddin Ahmmed Chowdhury Minar, the prime accused in the murder of Phulgazi Chairman Ekramul Haque, has been ordered to surrender in two weeks.

Appellate Division Chamber Judge Hasan Foez Siddiqui also stayed the bail granted to the Feni BNP leader by the High Court after hearing a prosecution plea on Sunday.

Barrister Rafique-Ul Huq represented Minar. Attorney General Mahbubey Alam argued on the state’s behalf, assisted by Deputy Attorney General Md Ekramul Haque Tutul.

“We argued that Minar has specific charges against him. His name appears in testimonies provided by others under Section 164. The prime accused in a sensitive and grotesque murder cannot be on bail,” the deputy attorney general later told bdnews24.com.

Gunmen had blocked Phulgazi chairman Ekramul Haque’s SUV in front of a cinema hall at the heart of the Feni district town at May 20. They hurled bombs, shot him, and finally set the vehicle on fire with him trapped inside.
Minar, the prime accused in the case filed by the victim’s brother, walked out of Feni prison on Jul 17 after securing bail from the High Court.
Convener of Tanti Dal, Minar was arrested on May 27. He was sent to the Feni district prison on Jun 4 after questioning.
