PM to attend Girl Summit in London

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will lead a high-level Bangladesh delegation to London on Monday to join the Girl Summit, 2014.

At the summit, which will commence on Tuesday, the prime minister will highlight the government’s firm commitment to eliminate child marriage and forced marriage and the progress made by women.

Before the summit, Hasina will meet her British counterpart David Cameron at 10, Downing Street, sources at the Prime Minister’s Office said.
She will also attend several events hosted by expatriate Bangladeshis and return on Thursday.
With the UNICEF as a co-host, the UK government is organising the first-ever Girl Summit aimed at mobilising domestic and international efforts to end female genital mutilation (FGM) and child, early and forced marriage (CEFM) within a generation.

Prime minister’s itinerary in London

A special Biman Bangladesh flight carrying the prime minister will land at the Heathrow airport at 3:30pm local time on Monday. Hasina will stay at the Hilton Hotel at Park Lane during her visit.

From 8:30pm to 9pm Hasina will meet with David Cameron at 10 Downing Street.

From 11:55am to 12:25pm she will take part in the high level session of the Girl Summit. There she will join a discussion moderated by UNICEF Executive Director Anthony Lake.

At 11am Wednesday she will meet expatriate Bangladeshis and leave for Dhaka at 6:15pm from Heathrow.
