2 held with fake notes in Chittagong

Police have recovered fake notes worth Tk 66,000 from two men whom they arrested at Chittagong’s Oxygen on Friday night.

The counterfeit notes were recovered ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, the festival in which transactions are usually high.

Three men including the detained - Md Harun, 25 and Md Jalal, 24 - who came from Dhaka two days ago, were travelling from the port city’s Choudhury Haat in a bus when they saw a check post at Bayezid Police Station area and decided to bolt out of the vehicle.

“The two were bringing fake notes from Dhaka to sell them here,” said Bazejid Police SI Jahed Hossain. ‘Rubel’, another man who was with them escaped.

The fake notes were recovered from their pockets, said the SI.

“They came from Dhaka two days ago and were staying in Hathazari’s Choudhury Haat.”

A case has been filed accusing the three, including the absconder, he added.
