Extremist killed in Jessore ‘gunfight’

A left wing radical leader has been killed in an encounter between factions of Biplabi Communist Party in Jessore involving in a vicious turf war, police said.

The shootout took place in the wee hours of Wednesday atNikriparha under of Abhoynagar Upazila, said Abhoynagar police OC Khabir Uddin.

The victim, Siraj Akand, 40, led a faction of the Biplobi Communist Party.

He was implicated in 12 cases and was charged with murder.

Police rushed to the spot after hearing of the gunbattle, OC Khabir said.

The two groups fled as the police arrived.

Police found Akand’s body lying on the spot, the OC said.
