Ex-secretary Golam Mostakim dies

Former secretary and director general of Bangladesh Civil Service Administration Academy Golam Mostakim has died.

He breathed his last in Dhaka’s Holy Family Hospital on Saturday morning, his elder son Golam Mujtoba Dhrubo said.

Mostakim was 61.

He had been suffering from diabetes for a long time.

Mostakim retired in 2011.

He worked to help create worldwide opinion during Bangladesh’s War of Independence in 1971.
His two brothers Golam Kibria Tajo and Golam Dastagir Tito were killed during the liberation war and are fondly remembered as martyrs for the cause.
He enjoyed close relations with novelist and short story writer Syed Mujtaba Ali who died in 1974.
His book ‘Syed Mujtaba Ali Prosongo Oprosongo’ is used as reference on the late writer.
Mostakim graduated in English from Dhaka University and excelled in four languages including German and French.
He served as additional secretary to the Ministry of Commerce and also worked in other ministries as well.
Mostakim left wife and two sons to mourn his death.
His elder son Dhrubo is a staff correspondent at bdnews24.com while his younger son Golam Ayub Avro is a lawyer.
The former secretary hailed from Seota village under Sadar Thana in Manikganj.
He would be laid to rest at Dhaka’s Azimpur graveyard after Zohr prayers on Saturday, Dhrubo said.
