“We have fought and won against both India and Myanmar for our maritime border”, he said. “This happened because Awami League is in government.”

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s son Joy, who is also her Information Technology adviser, was speaking at a jute farmers’ rally at Rangpur’s Pirganj on Saturday.

“The Awami League government is willing to fight any country for Bangladesh. We aren’t afraid. We only care about what Bangladesh needs and how it can be further developed.”

Joy reached his ancestral home, Pirganj, at Saturday noon to inaugurate computer labs in three schools, WiFi and Teletalk 3G connections.

He also launched power lines for more than 3,000 new consumers in 50 different villages of the Upazila.

Joy then announced that every school in Bangladesh will have one computer lab, and 100,000 WiFi zones will be launched across the country.

“Awami League built computer labs in 25,000 schools. Our dream is to have a computer lab in every school in Bangladesh. There will be 100,000 WiFi zones to facilitate more people to use free internet,” he said.

Pirganj, once a drought-hit area, was in a festive mode for the visit.

School children in uniform roamed around. Makeshift gates had been erected in several places and posters hung from poles to welcome Joy’s arrival.

"Your demand was electricity. We had promised to provide power connections to every house. We are working towards fulfilling that.

"Your demand is for gas connections in North Bengal. I have told the state minister for power that gas connection will have to be brought here," Joy said while addressing the rally at the grounds of Pirganj High School.
