Mousumi Akhter, 23, was beaten and strangled to death at Mothurapur village sometimes during Wednesday night, said Chiribandar OC Raushan Mostafa.

Police arrested her husband ‘Salam’ when they went to recover her body on Thursday morning.

“We have noticed black strangulation marks around her neck and wounds on her hand and back,” said OC Raushan Mostafa.
Mousumi gave birth to a girl a year after her marriage to Salam in 2009,” the victim’s brother ‘Nayan’ told bdnews24.com. “She gave birth to another daughter in June last year.”
“Salam and his family members would beat and abuse her soon after the second child was born,” he said.
Nayan said according to the neighbours, his sister and Salam got into a heated argument on Wednesday night. “He began beating her and choked her to death.”
“The neighbours heard screams, and the sound of her struggles. They soon locked Salam in a room.”
OC Raushan said Mousumi’s father has filed a case accusing three including Salam and his mother. Her body will undergo an autopsy at Dinajpur Medical College and Hospital.
