Man held for torturing wife

A man has been arrested in Naogaon for shaving off his wife’s head and burning her with cigarette butts after being refused dowry.

The arrested has been identified as Rubel Hossain, a resident of Ayapur village under Manda Upazila.

Manda police station OC Abdullah Hel Baki said the victim’s family filed a case on Tuesday night, accusing three people including Hossain, his mother and sister-in-law.

The victim said Hossain, in connivance with the other two, had his wife’s head shaved on Monday afternoon.

He also burnt different parts of her body with cigarette, she said.

Abbas Ali, the victim’s father, alleged Hossain had often tortured his daughter since their marriage four years ago.

Hossain had even tried to kill her a month ago, he said, adding that the issue had then been settled through arbitration.
