They are Nurey Alam Siddique, Rana Hawlader and Nazimul Haque Mitthu, said Detective Police's Deputy Commissioner (DC) Jahangir Hossain Matubbar.

He said that Siddique was the mastermind behind the attack, while Hawlader, who was driving the motorcycle, had led the attack.

Miscreants, riding on a motorcycle, fired at Shamim on June 19 in Dhaka’s Dhanmondi.

On Tuesday, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) had arrested four persons over the attack, which left Shamim with gunshot wounds in his left arm.

According to DC Matubbar, police arrested Hawlader on Tuesday night from Dhaka's Paltan area. Mitthu was arrested from Sher-E-Bangla Nagar area while Siddique from a house at New Eskaton area.

Police have also recovered the motorcycle used in the attack on Jun 19.

"After initial interrogation, we came to know that Nurey Alam (Siddique) had planned the attack. He hired others for Tk 600,000 to execute it," said the police official.

After the arrests of four persons, RAB claimed on Monday that the plan had been hatched to kill Shamim because of business rivalry.

Shamim is one of the directors of the privately owned Stamford University and also has other businesses.

He served as the BCL president from 1994 to 1998. He was also a BCL leader of the JU unit.

Hailing from Shariatpur, Shamim was vice president of the Jahangirnagar University Central Students’ Union from 1989 to 1991.
