University teachers demand independent pay-scale
Teachers at public universities have demanded an independent pay-scale and increase in the age of retirement from 65 to 67 years.

Their call came from human-chain programmes on Sunday, held simultaneously at 34 universities including Dhaka University.
The Federation of Bangladesh University Teachers’ Association staged the human-chain protest at DU at noon in front of the Arts Building.
FBUTA President Farid Uddin Ahmed said these logical demands were ignored for the past 40 years.
"Public university teachers in every country in this sub-continent have separate pay-scales, but not in our country," he said.
“The country's economic and social development is impossible while the teachers live in poverty,” he observed.
Ahmed was accompanied by over 50 other teachers including Prof SM Imamul Haque, Prof Akhtar Hossain Khan, Prof Golam Rabbani and Prof Abul Monsur Ahmed.
