The incident took place around 6pm on Sunday near the Bijay Sarani intersection in Dhaka, said Chowdhury, who is also the city editor of Bengali daily ‘Samakal’.

He told bdnews24.com he was on his way to Gulshan to attend the Iftar hosted by BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.

He had left DRU office on a microbus which got stuck in traffic at the busy intersection.

A white car stopped in front the microbus when it only started moving, he said.

"Two youths came out of it and tried to drag me out of my car."
But the duo fled when people started coming to their aid after hearing the hullabaloo and his cry for help, Chowdhury said.
But the attackers threatened him before running away.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Tejgaon division Deputy Commissioner Biplab Kumar Sarkar told bdnews24.com he heard of the incident.
"We will investigate after we receive a formal complaint."
Meanwhile, DRU has called a rally at 11am Monday protesting against the 'abduction' attempt at its president.
