Acid burns siblings in Kushtia

An acid attack has left three injured including a brother and sister at Gopalpur village in Kushtia.

The incident, which happened on Saturday night, triggered a clash that left 10 injured.

The victims have been identified as Gopalpur villager Ayub Ali’s daughter ‘Sonia’, 18, a college student, and his son ‘Titumir’, 13, and his sister-in-law ‘Saliha’.

Islami University police station OC Mir Shafiqul said ‘Sonia’ and ‘Titumir’, had been admitted to the burn unit of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital and Rajshahi Medical College Hospital respectively.

'Saliha' was being treated at the Kushtia General Hospital.

The incident led to a clash between the Mandal and Biswas groups at the Charpara Primary School in Gopalpur on Sunday.

Shafiqul told bdnews24: “The Biswas group blamed the Mandal group and both sides got into a fight. Police brought the situation under control and rescued those injured in the clash.”

Some of them were admitted to the Kushtia General Hospital. Police detained one person, Nayeb Ali, in connection with the acid attack but a case is yet to be filed.

Additional policemen have been deployed in the area.
