“The workers of Wakia and Techno Garments say that they didn’t get their salaries for May,” Industrial Police Inspector Arifur Rahman told bdnews24.com.

Nearly a thousand of them stopped traffic on Sheikh Mujib Road at Dewanhat intersection from 10am on Saturday.

Their protest caused a long traffic snarl from Agrabad Commercial area to the city’s export processing zone. Vehicles stood still because of the blockade.

They started to move at around 11am after metropolitan and industrial police persuaded the workers to lift the blockade.
“Techno Garments recently laid-off some of their workers. The workers were also protesting against that.
"We told them we will mediate between them and the factory owners,” said Inspector Arifur.
