Police, after the move, sought to interrogate the former army officers, Lt Col Tarek Sayeed Mohammad and Major Arif Hossain, in custody for ten more days but was granted eight by a court in the port city on Thursday.

The two, among the three RAB-11 officers accused of carrying out the murders last month, were already in police custody on being arrested under Section 54 of CrPC, as suspects, from Dhaka Cantonment last Saturday.

They were sent on five-day remands the following day.

The other accused, former navy Lt Commander NM Rana was arrested on Sunday and put on remand for seven days.

The men were removed from their parent forcers after the bodies of seven men including Ward Councillor Nazrul Islam, abducted from Narayanganj city on Apr 27, were found floating on Shitalakhyya River at Bandar Upazila.

The three were removed from RAB-11 even before the abducted men were found dead.

Family of slain councillor Nazrul accused the elite force members of killing the men in exchange for money from Ward-4 Councillor Nur Hossain.
