2 AL leaders killed in Lakshmipur

Two local Awami League (AL) leaders were found dead in Lakshmipur early on Thursday.

These murders follow those two days ago of a Chhatra League leader and a Juba Dal activist in the same district.

The two Awami League leaders found dead on Thursday were its Sadar Upazila’s Charshahi Union unit president Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan and Raipur municipality unit general secretary Md Abdul Mazid.

Both were fifty years old.

Locals spotted Bhuiyan’s body with his throat slit by the side of his house in Charshahi in the early hours of Thursday, Daser Haat police outpost SI Md Kamal Hossain said.

He was picked up from his house around 11pm on Wednesday.

Police sent the body to the Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital mortuary in the morning, the SI said.
Meanwhile, Mazid’s body was found in Charpata area early Thursday morning, said Raipur Police Station SI Md Abul Bashar.
Mazid’s cousin Mizanur Rahman alleged he had been strangled. There were no injury marks on the body, he said.
Earlier this week, a Bangladesh Chhatra League leader and a Juba Dal activist were killed in Haziparha under Lakshmipur Sadar Upazila.
Two Juba League and Juba Dal leaders were also killed earlier in May.
Besides, a Juba Dal leader of Lakshmipur was found dead in Dhaka’s Uttara recently, indicating that the political turf war is spilling over outside the district.
