UNDP says the five-day training would enhance their skills and capacity in making Upazila Parisads “more effective and functional”.

Upazila chairmen, vice-chairmen, upazila nirbahi officers, agriculture officers, education officers, family planning officers and engineers are joining the training.

The Upazila Parisad elections concluded in Mar in phases, except 20 Upazilas, for which the Election Commission intends to hold polls in July-August.

The UNDP along with the EU, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, and the UN Capital Development Fund supports the Upazila Governance Project (UZGP) of the Local Government Division.

The training would be conducted at five government training institutes across Bangladesh.

With 40 participants from five Upazilas in each batch, UNDP expects to cover all 487 Upazila Parisads within three to four months.

The five-year project has begun in 2012.
