He has been identified as Md Bahar, 48, from Comilla’s Laksham.

Customs Deputy Director Mustafizur Rahman said Bahar came in on an Emirates flight from Dubai on Friday morning.

“We searched him as his movements raised suspicion,” he told bdnews24.com.

He said gold bars found on Bahar weighed nearly 3.25kg and has an estimated value of around Tk 15 million.

The smuggling of the precious metal has apparently peaked in recent time for some unclear reasons.

Officials in both Dhaka and Chittagong airports have reported random gold hauls in the past several months.

On Monday, three persons were detained at the Shahjalal airport with 20kg gold.
