Elephant killed in Netrokona

An elephant was shot dead in Netrokona after it had killed two persons.

The elephant came down from the hills of the Indian state of Meghalaya and entered the locality in Sadhuparha through Someshwari river on Thursday morning, Durgapur Police Station OC Rezaul Karim said.

The elephant attacked the house of one Hari Dey around 5am, injuring his wife Geeta Rani Dey.

She was admitted to the Durapur Upazila health complex and later shifted to the Mymensingh Medical College and Hospital after her condition worsened.

Then locals chased the elephant and it entered a paddy field.

Local administration, police and Border Guard Bangladesh personnel tried to capture the elephant.
But it entangled three men with its trunk and threw them down.
Two of them --- Taher Uddin, 70, and Shibu Pandey, 40, died on the spot.
Injured Abdur Rahim was admitted to the Upazila health complex.
Later the elephant was shot dead, the OC said.
