Forhad Hossain, 24, succumbed to his injuries while he was being rushed to Noakhali General Hospital at 1am Tuesday, said Chandraganj Police SI Abu Taher.

Earlier, a schoolboy, Rabiul Hasan Shimul, was shot dead when violence erupted at two villages, Latifpur and Deoparha, at around 9am Monday.

Twenty more were left injured.

The fighting began when ruling Awami League-backed ‘Nasir Bahini’ of Chandraganj attacked and set fire to the houses of BNP leaders Tofael Ahmed and Union Parisad member Ali Karim, located at Deoparha and Latifpur respectively.

Forhad, Tofael Ahmed’s grandson, was burnt in the attack.

Clashes spread when ‘Jisan Bahini’, a BNP-backed gang, joined the fight by attacking the home of Kazi Bablu, president of Bangladesh Chhatra League’s local unit.

Bablu’s nephew, eight-grader Shimul, died immediately after he was shot while he was trying to flee the attackers.

The two gangs were then engaged in gun battle with police.
