Over 200 RMG workers fall sick

Over 200 workers at a Gazipur factory for readymade garment have fallen ill due to food poisoning, police and doctors say.

The incident occurred at the ‘Best Wool Sweater’ factory in Konabarhi’s Jorun on Monday evening.

Sub-Inspector Rabiul Alam of Konabarhi police outpost said the factory provided eggs, bananas, and biscuit at around 7:30pm.

“Several workers started vomiting after resuming work some 20 minutes later.”

He told bdnews24.com some of them had fainted.

The factory authorities admitted over 200 sick workers to several local clinics.

“The workers fell sick due to food poisoning,” Md Sharif, a doctor at Sharif Medical, told bdnews24.com.

Md Shahadat Hossain, the factory’s manager, said one Sajib Pathan, a businessman from Jorun, supplied food to the factory.

“We’ll take actions against him,” he said.
