The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has reacted to bdnews24.com’s exposé on ‘Financial irregularities, mismanagement and lack of transparency’ at Bangladesh’s London High Commission, describing it as ‘pre-mature’.

About the audit report, on which the bdnews24.com exposé is based, the Foreign Ministry said in its statement: “The report contains just the primary findings which will go through a well defined process of scrutiny and then only would assume a final, definitive and endorsable character through which accountability would be enforced.”

The statement further said: “The audit report is not an end in itself, but a part of a total system of transparency within the government system, in which different stakeholders play their respective roles.”

Interestingly, the Foreign Ministry statement admitted the existence of the audit report and did not either contradict any of its observations or say any of it has been wrongly reported by bdnews24.com.

“The fact that none of the audit findings reported by us could be contradicted by the ministry or the mission proves the point we have made – that the findings are serious enough and merit space in the public domain,” said Gazi Nasiruddin Khokan, news editor with bdnews24.com.
