The Cabinet in a meeting on Monday entrusted the finance and public administration secretaries and the secretary to the Prime Minister’s Office to hasten the process to fill the new and vacant posts in collaboration with Public Service Commission (PSC).

Cabinet Secretary Muhammad Musharraf Hossain Bhuiyan briefed reporters after the weekly meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.

Many government activities were being delayed due to lack of skilled manpower, Bhuiyan said.

“There’re several stages in manpower recruitment. In some cases, the government needs to create posts. Another stage is recruitment and the recruitment process consumes a lot of time.”

He said the recommendations of the PSC were mandatory for recruitment of the first and second class officials. But an organisation itself could employ manpower for third and fourth class posts.

He said though the capability of the PSC did not increase, its activities increased and the number of job seekers also went up.

“The Cabinet has given a directive to accelerate the recommendations for recruitment through the PSC,” he said.

The Cabinet on Monday presented a report on execution of the decisions of the present government in the first quarter of 2014.

According to it, the Cabinet in its 10 meetings during the period from Jan 12 to Mar 31 took 37 decisions, out of which 19 were executed.

After the cancellation of the fifth and seventh amendments to the Constitution by the High Court, the Cabinet directed the authorities to review the revoked ordinances and determine which ones are necessary, and draft fresh laws in Bangla updating those ordinances, Bhuiyan said.
