26 injured in police-Jamaat clash

At least 26 people, including six policemen, have been injured in a clash between Jamaat-e-Islami and law enforcers.

Natore city unit of Jamaat took out a procession on Monday morning from Harishpur Bypass intersection. The procession was stopped by police when it reached Ektar Intersection.

Jamaat activists started throwing brickbats at the police after the procession turned towards Harishpur.

Police fired several rounds of rubber bullets. Jamaat activist Shahabudin and former Islami Chhatra Shibir leader Shamsul Islam Kallol were wounded in the firing. At least 20 others were also injured.

Six policemen, including Natore Police Station Officer-in-Charge Aslam Uddin and Sub-Inspector Nuruzzaman, were injured in the Jamaat attack.

OC Aslam Uddin said 14 rounds of rubber bullets and nine teargas shells were fired.

Kallol was admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
