6 BGB men hurt in Kushtia accident

A pickup van carrying Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel has overturned in Kushtia Sadar Upazila, leaving six of them injured.

The accident occurred on the Kushtia-Pabna road early on Sunday morning, said Maj Md Tareque Mahmud of 32 Rifles Battalion.

Condition of four of the injured is said to be critical. They were airlifted to Dhaka’s Combined Military Hospital (CMH).

The injured were identified as Subedar Mohiuddin, 65, Nayek Mizanur Rahman, 45, and Lance Nayeks Abdul Halim, 35, Obaidur Rahman, 38, Shafiqul Islam, 39, and Sirajul Islam, 35.

Mohiuddin, Halim, Obaidur and Shafiqul were taken to CMH.

The other two were admitted to the Kushtia Sadar Hospital.

The BGB personnel were on their way to Kushtia after a special drive in Jhenaidah, said Maj Mahmud.

The driver lost control near Kushtia town and the van hit a roadside tree, he said.

It was smashed under the impact.
