The students formed a human chain at 11am and then moved on to block the highway on Saturday.

The students said their protest will continue until their seven-point charter of demands is met by the authorities.

Police said armed men broke into a common room for first-year students on the building’s first floor on Friday night.

They used a form of anaesthesia to render the girls unconscious before robbing them of 15 cell phones, three laptops, cash and jewelry.

Altogether 17 girls were staying in the room.

Some of the victims, requesting anonymity, said the men tried to sexually assault them as well.

They also accused the hostel’s security guard of joining the robbers.

Students upset by the incident threatened to boycott classes on Saturday.

Dr Ahsan Habib, a professor, claimed measures for students’ security would be improved, if needed.

Police, however, were yet to arrest anyone.

Bogra Sadar Police OC Faizul Haque said they were trying to find the robbers.
