Quader referred to the statistics of Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) to reporters while visiting Bangladesh Machine Tools Factory Ltd (BMTF) in Gazipur on Thursday.

“Motorcycles have now become a living threat to us. Especially the menace is very acute in the bordering area,” he said.

He said that if the situation did not improve, the government’s various initiatives to curb the traffic congestion and road accidents would not succeed.

The communications minister said that it was not possible to repair many of the old and dilapidated roads with bitumen. Since the busy and old roads bear heavy loads of vehicles, the government was contemplating to turn them into concrete roads.
