Mujibnagar Day observed

The historic Mujibnagar Day is being observed on Thursday with a plethora of events.

On this day in 1971, the 'provisional government' of Bangladesh was formed in Kushtia's Meherpur area with Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman named as the president, Syed Nazrul Islam as vice president and acting president and Tajuddin Ahmed was named the prime minister.

The ruling Awami League (AL) started the day hoisting the national and party flags at the Dhanmondi Bangabandhu Bhaban and party offices across the country.

Prime Minister and AL President Sheikh Hasina placed wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu in Dhanmondi around 7am.

AL Presidium Member and Parliament’s Deputy Leader Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury, Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury, Communications Minister Obaidul Quader and Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed were present there.
