Hossain was admitted to coronary care unit (CCU) on Wednesday morning after he complained of chest pain.

“Father felt chest pain in the morning. Later prison doctors brought him to Dhaka,” the BNP leader’s son Maruf Hossain told bdnews24.com.

The ex-health minister was arrested on Mar 12 in a money laundering case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission.

A former teacher of geology department at Dhaka University, Hossain has been the BNP Standing Committee member since 1994.

The former MP of Comilla-2 constituency was energy and mineral resources minister during the BNP’s 1991-95 regime and health minister in the BNP-Jamaat coalition government between 2001-2006.
