Police raided the building around 5pm. The two groups of students began fighting in the afternoon.

Sub-Inspector of the Shahbagh Police Station Shahed Ali told bdnews24.com: “Some 15 active crude bombs, kept in a cartoon, were seized from one of the dormitory rooms.”

No one was arrested in this connection.

Provost of the dormitory Prof AKM Maksud Kamal told reporters that a crude bomb went off when two rival groups of the Chhatra League, the student affiliate of the ruling Awami League, clashed inside the building.

The students said supporters of the hall unit BCL President Mobarak Hossain and General Secretary Arein Siddique Sujon clashed in front of the Surya Sen Hall cafeteria at around 1:30pm.
The fight subsequently shifted to the hall guest house and library, where stones and bricks were freely used.

University Proctor Prof Amjad Ali, university unit BCL President Mehedi Hasan and General Secretary Omar Sharif had to intervene to calm the situation.
