The prime minister stayed at the hospital for a while and enquired about his current condition, Hasina’s special assistant Mahbubul Hoque Shakil told reporters.

She also spoke to his family members and conveyed her sympathy.

Hiron on Mar 22 had suffered a cardiac arrest. He also suffered brain haemorrhage.

The former mayor of Barisal was rushed to the Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital and later shifted to Dhaka the same night.

A brain surgery was performed on him at the Apollo Hospital on Mar 23. He was airlifted to Singapore the following day for better treatment.

The ruling party MP from Barisal-5 constituency is still in a critical condition even after undergoing treatment in Singapore.

Hiron was kept on life support at the Glenn Eagles Medical Centre in Singapore from Mar 25 to Apr 3 before he was brought back to Bangladesh in the early hours of Friday.

Doctors there suggested taking Hiron back home as his condition remained unchanged even after a second brain surgery.

Hiron lost last year’s Barisal City Corporation mayoral polls but got elected as an MP uncontested in the 10th parliamentary election.
