Students, teacher beaten at Lalmonirhat

Miscreants have beaten up several people when stopped from clicking pictures of female students on cell phones at a science fair in Lalmonirhat’s Aditmari.

Eight girls, one male student and a teacher of the Sarpukur High School were attacked while they were returning from the fair in an auto-rickshaw on Saturday evening, the school's headmaster Abu Taleb Miah told bdnews24.com.

The miscreants also tried to kidnap the teenage girls during the scuffle at Khatapara of Shaptibari Union, Aditmari Police SI Samiul Islam told bdnews24.com.

Locals came to their rescue after they heard the students scream. forcing the miscreants to flee.

The 13-year old male student Chandan Kumar had his leg broken and was admitted at Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital.

Seven of the girls were being treated at Aditmari Upazila Hospital.

A teacher and another female student was released after primary medical care, said Omar Faruk, a doctor at the Upazila hospital.

Headmaster Abu Talib Miah has accused four in the case he filed on the night of the attack, said SI Islam.

Some other unidentified men were also accused for the attack, he said.

The police are trying to arrest those responisble, he added.
