None can foil war crimes trials: PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina says 'politically rehabilitated war criminals' will not be spared and may face prosecution.

“Those who have grabbed power through coup and conspiracy after the assassination of Bangabandhu will be tried on the soil of Bangladesh, Inshaallah,” she told a rally at Chandpur’s Mohanpur on Saturday.

Earlier, the prime minister launched ‘MV Bangali’, the first locally made passenger vessel, at the Sadarghat Launch Terminal.

Later she travelled to Chandpur by it.

She categorically said that trial of war criminals would be held.

“Nobody can foil it.”

Awami League blames BNP founder Ziaur Rahman and his wife BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia for rehabilitating 'war criminals' after the independence of Bangladesh.

Hasina called upon all pro-liberation forces to unite to uphold the Constitution, sovereignty and democracy.

On her way to Mohanpur the prime minister checked on works to improve navigability of rivers Buriganga, Meghna and Shitalakhya, cutting out wastes at the mouth of the rivers and removal of illegal construction along them.

She asked the ministers accompanying her to step up the works, said the Prime Minister’s Special Assistant Mahbubul Haque Shakil.

Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu, Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed, LGRD Minister Syed Ashraful Islam, Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan, Expatriate Welfare Minister Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Water Resources Minister Anisul Islam Mahmud, Food Minister Kamrul Islam, Haji Mohammad Selim MP and Kazi Firoz Rashid Chowdhury MP accompanied the prime minister.
