Poll violence victim dies

A Bangladesh Chhatra League activist, injured in post-poll violence in Gazaria Upazila in Munshiganj, has died.

Joton Miah, 22, son of Khokon Pradhan of Kandi village under Baushia Union, succumbed to his injuries at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) on Monday evening.

He was a member of Upazila Chhatra League unit.

Gazipur’s Additional Superintendent of Police Zakir Hossain Majumder confirmed Joton’s death.
Fifteen people were injured in clashes at Baushia between supporters of Awami League’s renegade candidate Refayetullah Khan Tota and BNP rebel candidate Abdul Mannan Dewan Mona on Monday morning, a day after the fourth phase of the Upazila Parishad elections.
Of them, Joton, 22, Mahbub Alam, 25, and Ujjal Miah, 20, were admitted to DMCH.
Four more – Anisur Rahman, 27, ‘Majnu’, 30, Salma Begum, 32, Iaz Dhali, 45, and Rafique Miah, 60, were admitted to Bhaberchar Health Complex.
