Two others were also critically injured in the incident that took place behind a tea stall at Manu Mia Bazar of Ahmmedpur village, said Abu Zafar Mohammad Saleh, OC at Sonagazi Police Station.

Police identified the deceased as Ekramul Haq Dulal, 60, of Madhyam Ahmedpur village of the Upazila’s Amirabad Union Council.

The injured are Sirajur Rahman Sharif, son of Abul Kalam and Mizanur Rahman, son of Ahmed Miah of the same village. They belong to ruling Awami League's youth wing Juba League, say locals.

Police said the explosion took place while they were making improvised bombs.

Local Awami League leadership, however, had a different version. They said Jamaat-e-Islami men had hurled the bombs at their activists Siraj and Mizan, leaving them critically injured.

They were then rushed to Feni General Hospital. Dulal was declared dead by doctors, said OC Zafar.

Hospital physician Asim Kumar Saha told bdnews24.com that Siraj and Mizan, who sustained critical injuries, have been shifted to Chittagong Medical College and Hospital.

Earlier on Mar 19, police had seized over 500 crude bombs from an abandoned house in Feni’s Fulgazi Upazila. The bombs might have been kept for use during the Sunday polls, police had then suspected.
