Motiar Rahman Khan claimed supporters of the Awami League-backed candidate chased his agents away from polling centres and even stopped voters from exercising their franchise.
Rahman told a press briefing that he was pulling out because his rival had resorted to large scale rigging.
The press briefing was held at 11am, three hours after polling started.
The BNP’s candidate said his workers and those who wanted to vote for him were feeling insecure.
Rahman alleged the local administration were openly siding with the ruling party candidate.
