Abul Hossain alias Abu died at Maijdi Asia Hospital at 6am, Md Altaf Hossain, OC at Sadar Police Station, told reporters on Friday.

The 40-year-old was an activist of BNP youth wing's Chandraganj Union Parisad unit, said Md Shahjahan, its President, adding that Abu was a member of the Jisan Gang, a local terror group.

Abu's brother, Habib, said his brother had gone to supervise an earth-filling work beside Samata Cinema Hall at Chandraganj Market around noon on Thursday.
A group of about eight people, including Rubel and Mizan, of the Nasir Gang, also a terror group, had attacked Abu and shot him in the chest at point-blank range, he said.
He had then been admitted to the hospital with critical injuriries, he said.
Abu might have been killed in sequel to an intra-party conflict, Habib said.
The deceased had faced several cases, said OC Hossain.
