Juba League leader of Chandpur’s Kochua chapter Kazi Enamul Haque Shamim filed the case at Chandpur Senior Judicial Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

Jugantar’s publisher Salma Islam MP, acting Editor Saiful Alam, Chief Reporter Enam Ahmed and News Editor Abdur Rahman have been made defendants.

Helal Uddin, counsel for the complainant, said the court had taken the case into cognisance and summoned the defendants to the court on Mar 11.

According to case details, the daily newspaper published a report on Jan 13 about the dropping of the two heavyweight ministers, which the complainant described as 'obnoxious’.

On Jan 17, it ran another report claiming that wealth and money of the dropped ministers and state ministers had increased overnight.

The complainant said these ‘false’ and ‘fabricated’ reports had defamed the former ministers and demanded Tk 2 billion as compensation.

Former Home Minister and Chandpur-1 constituency lawmaker MK Alamgir, former Foreign Minister and Chandpur-3 lawmaker Dipu Moni, Chandpur district Awami League President Md Shamsul Haque Bhuiyan, General Secretary Abu Naim Patwari and nine others have been made witnesses in the case.
