The 49-member Cabinet sworn in on Sunday afternoon has 23 new faces, while most members of the previous Cabinet have retained their earlier portfolios.

JP Chairman Anwar Hossain Manju has been given the Environment and Forests portfolio in the new Sheikh Hasina-led government.

Awami League leader Mohammad Nasim, who was in Hasina's ministry in 1996, has been made the Health Minister.

First time MP Advocate Anisul Haque, who led the state in the Shiekh Mujibur Rahaman assassination trial, was given the law portfolio.

The Cabinet Division on Sunday published a gazette notification on the portfolios of the 49 ministers after their swearing-in earlier in the day.

Awami League President Sheikh Hasina has become the Prime Minister for the third time in two decades with her new government comprising 29 ministers, 17 state ministers and two deputy ministers set to begin its five-year term.

She has brought back several veteran party leaders in this government, which includes at least 23 new faces.

Three from HM Ershad's Jatiya Party, one from the Workers Party, and one from the JaSaD have also found berths in the new government.

Two senior Awami League leaders - Tofail Ahmed and Amir Hussain Amu - who were also in the poll-time multi-party interim government, have been given the commerce and industry portfolios.

The Housing and Public Works portfolio was given to the ruling party leader from Chittagong, Engineer Mosharraf Hossain. He was the Civil Aviation Minister in Hasina's government in 1996.

Also a state minister in that government, Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya was made the Minister of Disaster Management and Relief in the new government.

MP Asaduzzaman Noor, a cultural celebrity, has been made the Cultural Affairs Minister, while AHM Mustafa Kamal was given the Planning Ministry.

Jatiya Party's Anisul Islam Mahmud has retained his post as the Water Resources Minister and JaSaD chief Hasanul Haq Inu as the Information Minister.

Workers Party President Rashed Khan Menon has been made the Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister.

Three veteran Awami League leaders - Prof Matiur Rahman from Mymensingh, Shamsur Rahman Sherif Dilu from Pabna and Brahmanbaria's Md Sayedul Haque - were given the religious affairs, land and fisheries and livestock resources portfolios respectively.

Most members of the past Cabinet have retained their posts in the new one.

However, former State Minister for Law Qamrul Islam has been made a full minister for food.

Mostafizur Rahman Fizar has been made the Minister of Primary and Mass Education.

Jute and Textile Minister of the past government, Abdul Latif Siddique has been given of two ministries - post and telecommunications, and information and communications technology.

Abul Maal Abdul Muhith will retain his earlier finance ministry, Matia Chowdhury agriculture, Syed Ashraful Islam LGRD, Nurul Islam Nahid education, Obaidul Quader communications, Mazibul Haq railways, Shajahan Khan shipping and Khandker Mosharraf Hossain expatriates' welfare.

Among the new faces, Gazipur’s AKM Mozammel was given liberation war affairs portfolio, while Naogaon’s Emaj Uddin Pramanik has got jute and textile, and Moulivibazar’s Syed Mohsin Ali social welfare.

Of the state ministers, new entrant Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, MP from Dhaka-11, has been made state minister for home.

Former civil servant Sunamganj’s MA Mannan will work with Finance Minister Muhith as the state minister.

Rajshahi’s Shahriar Alam has been made state minister for foreign affairs.

Besides, Mirza Azam has been made state minister for jute and textile, Bir Bahadur for Chittagong Hill Tracts affairs, Narayan Chandra Chand for fisheries and livestock, Biren Sikder youth and sports, Nasrul Hamid Bipu for power, Zunaid Ahmed Palak for information and communications technology.

Late Awami League leader Akhteruzzaman Chowdhury’s son Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Jabed has been made state minister for land, AHSK Sadeq’s wife, Ismat Ara Sadeq, for primary and mass education, and retired Col Maleks’ son Jahid Malek Swapan has been made state minister for health.

Jatiya Party Presidium member Mujibul Haque Chunnu will continue as the state minister for labour, a post he held in the poll-time, multi-party Cabinet.

Another Jatiya Party Presidium member, Mashiur Rahman Ranga, has been made state minister for rural development and cooperative division.

Yafes Osman will serve as the state minister for science and technology, and Meher Afroze Chumki for women and children affairs, and Promod Mankin will serve as the state minister for social welfare.

Two persons have been made deputy ministers, a post introduced in Hasina’s 1996-2001 Cabinet but dropped from her 2009-2013 government.

Of them, Abdullah Al Islam Jacob has been made deputy minister for water resources, and footballer Arif Khan Joy for youth and sports.

The Cabinet Division, public administration, defence and armed forces division will remain under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

However, she will also be in charge of the ministries and divisions that do not yet have a minister or state minister.
