Sayedee case witness dies

A witness, who testified against Jamaat leader Delwar Hossain Sayeedee in a war crimes case, succumbed to his wounds on Sunday after being attacked in his own house.

Mostofa Howladar, 55, died at the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) around 2.30am on Tuesday, said inspector Mozammel Haque of the DMCH police outpost.

He was attacked in his home of Pirojpur's Zianagar Upazila on Saturday.

His wife Hasina Begum was also injured in the attack.

The couple was taken to a local hospital and later to the Khulna Sadar Hospital before being brought to DMCH on Sunday.
Zianagar Police Station OC Kamruzzaman Talukder said a few men broke into Howladar's house around 3am on Friday and attacked him with sharp weapons when he was sleeping.
Howlader suffered severe head injuries.
His wife was attacked when she raised an alarm.
In February this year, the International Crimes Tribunal awarded death sentence to Sayedee for crimes against humanity committed during the 1971 Liberation war.
