According to a press release of the European Parliament, its members during the plenary sessions on Thursday adopted the resolution urging “all groups and individuals” to exercise tolerance and restraint, especially in the lead-up to, during, and after the elections.

The release said that the resolution further called upon the Bangladesh’s Election Commission to organise and oversee the next general elections in a “fully transparent manner”.

The European Parliament said the political parties should refrain from any violence during the electoral process,” the release said.

The situation in Bangladesh turned fluid following differences between the country’s two main political parties over a polls-time dispensation.

The ruling Awami League is going ahead with its plan to conduct elections under the supervision of an 'all-party' interim government, while the BNP has remained steadfast to its demand for a non-party polls-time government.

The resolution on Bangladesh was one among the three crucial resolutions adopted in the plenary session of the European parliament on Thursday.

The other two resolutions were pertaining to the situation of migrant workers in Qatar and cases of of Hungarian citizen Előd Tóásó and Croatian citizen Mario Tadić.

“The European Parliament is concerned about the situation of the migrant workers in Qatar and calls for the speedy adoption of the draft law on domestic workers, currently being debated in the Supreme Council of Family Affairs,” the release said.

MEPs call on the Qatari authorities to stop detaining individuals for "running away" from their employers.

MEPs note that at least 500,000 more migrant workers are expected in Qatar to accelerate work in preparation for the 2022 football World Cup there and urge FIFA to send a clear and strong message to Qatar to prevent the preparations for the 2022 football World Cup being overshadowed by allegations of forced labour.

MEPs also called on the Bolivian authorities to ensure a fair and independent trial in the cases of Hungarian citizen Előd Tóásó and Croatian citizen Mario Tadić and carry out an independent investigation, involving international experts, into the deaths of Romanian citizen Árpád Magyarósi, Irish citizen Michael Martin Dwyer and Hungarian citizen Rózsa Flores Eduardo.
