Moderate quake in north-east

A mild earthquake shook up parts of Dhaka, Sylhet and Bangladesh's north-east on Wednesday.

According to the US Geological Survey, it measured 5.4 on the Richter scale and it happened around 10:16am.

An official at the meteorological office said the epicentre of the quake was 389 kms north-east of Dhaka at Barapathar in India's northeast.

India's northeast is sensitive seismologically and up to 200 micro-tremors are reported from the region every year.
Experts say the region is bracing for a major earthquake.
The official said Wednesday's tremor was felt in parts in Dhaka and Sylhet divisions.
No casualties have been reported.
