‘Oishee in tears and prayers’

Oishee Rahman, accused of murdering her parents, has been repenting and crying, prison authorities have said.

The teenager was brought to the Kashimpur Central Women’s Jail from the Dhaka Central Jail on Saturday evening. Oishee and their household help ‘Shumi’, also a minor, were transferred there from the ‘Konabari Kishori Unnayan Kendro’, a correctional institution in Gazipur.

But Shumi is still in the Dhaka Central Jail, authorities have said.

Oishee’s parents, SB Inspector Mahfuzur Rahman and Swapna Begum, were found dead in a bathroom of their house in Chamelibagh on Aug 16. Their bodies bore multiple stab wounds.

Oishee was seen leaving the house a day before the bodies were discovered. She turned herself in to the police the day after her parents here discovered dead. She has confessed to being involved in her parents murder police said.

Jailor at the Kashimpur Central Women’s Jail Md Amzad Hossain Don said, “We have advised her to find solace in religion. We are encouraging her to pray, read the Koran and other religious books. Oishee is now praying. She is asking forgiveness for her deeds and praying for her parents as well.”

Kashimpur Central Women’s Jail was set up in 2007. It has room for 200 inmates but currently 239 prisoners and 11 children.
