They say several ‘outsiders’ had attacked them earlier, injuring at least 30 of them.

Industrial police’s Ashulia zone Deputy Assistant Director Abdus Sattar said workers started demonstrating for salary dues and Eid bonus inside the ‘Landmark Group’ factory around 9am on Wednesday.

At one stage they smashed windowpanes and doors forcing the police to intervene, he said.

Sattar said the agitated workers had positioned themselves outside the factory building after the company paid a handful of the workers, leaving most in the 8,000 workforce upset.

The factory owner unleashed 'hired musclemen' on the workers during the demonstrations, the workers alleged.

Police, however, said they were unaware of the attacks.

Factory authorities declined comment when approached.

Police have been deployed in the factory area to avert further trouble, Sattar said.
