HSC success rate down

The success rate in HSC and equivalent exams this year has dropped by about four percent over last year.

7,44,891 students have cleared the 2013 HSC and its equivalent examinations, pegging the success rate to 74.30 percent.

58197 students have secured GPA-5.

The board-wise success rate is as hereunder:

Dhaka 74.04pc, Sylhet 79.13pc, Chittagong 61.22pc, Comilla 61.29pc, Jessore 67.49pc, Barisal 71.69pc, Rajshahi 77.69pc, Dinajpur 71.94pc, Madrasah 91.46pc, Technical 85.03pc.

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid along with the Chairpersons of all education boards handed over copies of the results to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at around 10am on Sunday.

Over 10,12,581 candidates took part in this year's examinations held under eight general boards, Alim under Madrasa Board and HSC Vocational/BM (Business Management) and DIBS under Technical Board.

Nahid will later officially announce the results at a press conference at the Secretariat, education ministry spokesman Subodh Chandra Dhali said.

Students will be able to know their results after 2pm.

The candidates can also get their result by sending SMS to number 16222 with text ‘HSC’ followed by space then first 3 letters of the respective education board followed by space again and then roll number.

For example: hsc dha 123456 2013 and send to 16222.

As per the ministry’s announcement the results is being published within 60 days of the tests as is the practice every year.

In 2012, 78.67 percent had cleared the Higher Secondary Certificate and equivalent examinations and 61,162 students had got GPA-5 grades.

Exams for 41 subjects were rescheduled this year due to strikes, political turmoil and cyclone Mahasen. The various Education Boards also faced problems in getting answer scripts evaluated due to the dislocations.
