Case, 52 held over Ctg gunfight

Police have lodged a murder case over the death of two people, including an 8-year-old, during a gunfight between the activists of Juba League and Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) over a railway tender in Chittagong City on Monday.

Sub-Inspector of Kotwali Police Station Mohibur Rahman filed the lawsuit on Monday night accusing 87 named people and some 40 unknown people.

Among the accused is expelled Assistant Secretary of the central Chhatra League committee Saiful Alam Limon.

Police arrested 52 people raiding different areas of the city until Monday night.

Inspector (investigation) of Kotwali Police Station Nezam Uddin told bdnews24.com that 35 named accused in the case were absconding.

Police said all the arrestees were involved in Juba League and Chhatra League – the youth and students, respectively, of the Awami League – in the port city.

The clash between the supporters of Awami League leader AZM Nasir Uddin-blessed Juba League leader Didarul Alam, expelled Chhatra League leader Limon and central Jube League leader Helal Akbar Chowdhury Babar took place at CRB Saatrasta intersection near railway’s eastern headquarters at around 12pm.

The deceased were identified as Arman Hossain, 8, and Juba League member Saju Palit, 25.

Police arrested 40 people, including Limon, from two areas of the city following the incident.

Limon had been expelled from the Chhatra League following his arrest.
